Enter a world where humans transform into wolves and hearts beat as hard as they break.
When the Alpha of the Boulder Pack dies, his son vies to become the next Alpha, and no one dares challenge him. Except Ness. The only female in her pack. Thus begins a treacherous game. The rules: winner takes all...including loser's heart.
Just when she thinks the fight is over, her place among the Boulders and at Liam's side is compromised. First, when her cousin claims Ness helped him elude his death sentence. And then, when August Watt, Ness's childhood friend, comes home to Boulder.
Ness is tired of fighting, tired of having to prove herself worthy of her pack's trust. But when an enemy pack arrives and threatens the Boulders, she has two choices: step aside and let the wolves who have pushed her away fend for themselves, or step up and help them fight the newcomers.
Ness has never stepped aside...not for anyone.
Why would she start now?
Review
At the start of book 1, there’s so much going on but it never made me feel like “WTF is going?” The backstory was slowly trickled in and IMO that made the story flow much better. Sometimes books inundate us with so much info at the start or the opposite not enough, and it feels like “WTF!”
Ness is freaking awesome. She goes up against all the alpha-holes of her pack and fights to be heard. Being the only female really made things complicated for her, but she never let that get her down. Her support system, Evelyn, and the way her mom raised her to never doubt herself is what helped her show those a-holes that females are not less than males.
Through it all, her “worst” enemy, Liam starts to see the good a female wolf has to offer and eventually falls for Ness. Ness having a bad history with Liam’s dad and Liam by association so she fights her feelings for him but eventually caves in. During their short relationship, and after their messy breakup, Liam is the embodiment of said alpha-hole syndrome.
On top of disrupting the wolf hierarchy and having a whirlwind relationship with the future Alpha, Ness then finds her fated mate. Something that is rarely seen, at least in the Boulder Pack. They’re still living in the dark ages when it comes to adjusting to modern times.
Throughout the story, Ness meets members of a nearby pack and see how inclusive other packs can be with their female wolves. She strikes up a friendship with a female wolf from the Pine pack. Her friendship with Sarah, showed Ness how things are done outside of Boulder and also gave her the wolfy support she was sorely lacking.
When Ness finally stops fighting the mate bond, things get spicy!!! I was all for Liam at the beginning even with his alpha-holiness but August completely won me over.
The trilogy has so many twists and turns, it’s crazy! There are so many secrets that are revealed, past events that finally made sense, there’s also the enemy to lovers trope, love triangle, & the best friends to lovers trope.
Really recommend this series! Book 4 is out now too!
