Review

Vee is so fucking annoying and is the reason why I gave a 4 star rating instead of 5. It could also be the narrator’s personification of Vee but I don’t know.

The overall story was great, putting Vee aside. I really liked Nora. As a sophomore, she really does have her priorities set straight and is so sure of herself that she can stand up for herself when the occasion arises.

When she’s partnered up with the new mysterious guy, even though she’s intimidated and attracted to him, she doesn’t let that uncomfortable situation keep her from trying to go back to her comfort zone. She fights against him when he’s giving her a hard time and fights her teacher to try to get away from Patch (didn’t work but she tried).

The conflicts, the mysteries, the world building, and overall series plot were all setup in such way that it’s not too over the top. We’re giving enough crumbs to be kept satisfied and interested while being thrown curveballs all throughout.

Being that it’s book one in the series, there’s tons of things that are still to be explored but I do think that the way Nora is brought onto the unknown world and her acceptance of it was done in such a way that it’s believable. She wasn’t dead set against accepting things that were beyond her understanding but she also didn’t just roll over and accept it all without questioning.

Vee continues to annoy the hell out of me til the very end, I hope she gets better or I might have to try to read instead of doing the audiobook next book.
