My poor poor Adrian!!!
Sydney is such a complex character. I hadn’t really liked her in VA but she definitely grew on me. She’s fiercely protective of those under her charge, or that she thinks are under her charge. She may seem like a pushover and weak, but she’s the opposite of that. Her biggest strength is that she’s able to take a lot of crap and keep quiet.
She’s tasked with keeping Jill away from court and making sure that she’s safe. Sydney is sent back to high school and has to room with Jill, which is completely against the Alchemist’s ways. Even with all the progress she made with her time with Rose and Dimitri, sleeping with a vampire definitely is more than she was comfortable with.
Little did she know, it wasn’t just Jill that was going to be under protection. Eddie and Adrian both accompanied Jill into hiding and therefore were under Sydney’s care. Adrian got a free pass while Eddie was sent back to high school along with Sydney. As the story unfolds, Sydney loosened up and while she’s not 100% comfortable with all things vampire, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian definitely help her see that they’re not all evil.
Adrian’s journey really tugs at my heart! I adore him and feel for him. He’s had such a hard time and things are pretty rough for him.
One tiny sort of nod that I found cool, was that we get to see who the strigoi that Robert changed back is. Completely unexpected and ironic how that plays a role in this book.
